Pension-related scams are increasingly sophisticated and widespread, making them harder to detect. Scammers now use various methods to reach potential victims, from social media channels to traditional cold calls. Their fake websites often appear highly credible, complete with fabricated testimonials, awards and qualifications, and even their correspondence contains fewer errors than before. You may even find yourself speaking to someone on the phone who comes across as knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy. Ultimately, pensions remain a prime target for scammers, whose tactics have grown noticeably more polished. Learn how to spot a scam and identity red flags.

Volunteering | A Form of Self-Care

Volunteering is a fantastic way to practice self-care. Here are some ways it can benefit you:

  • Boosts Mood: Helping others releases endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones which can lead to a sense of happiness and fulfilment
  • Creates Connections: Volunteering often involves teamwork, which can foster new friendships and connections. Building a strong social network is vital for emotional wellbeing
  • Reduces Stress: Engaging in meaningful activities can distract you from your worries and provide a sense of purpose, easing stress levels
  • Encourages Mindfulness: When you volunteer, you’re often focused on the present moment, which is a key aspect of mindfulness practice. It helps you connect with your surroundings and the people you’re helping
  • Gives Perspective: Volunteering can offer a new perspective on your own challenges. Seeing how others cope with difficulties can inspire gratitude and resilience

Pearson supports employees who wish to volunteer for charitable institutions, community initiatives and educational establishments with up to 5 days of paid volunteering leave in a calendar year.
